The\\xa0Zimmermann Telegram\\xa0(or\\xa0Zimmermann Note\\xa0or\\xa0Zimmerman Cable) was a secret diplomatic communication issued from the\\xa0German Foreign Office\\xa0in January 1917 that proposed a military alliance between\\xa0Germany\\xa0and\\xa0Mexico\\xa0if the\\xa0United States\\xa0entered\\xa0World War I\\xa0against Germany. Mexico\\xa0would recover\\xa0Texas,\\xa0Arizona, and\\xa0New Mexico. The telegram was intercepted and decoded by\\xa0British intelligence.
