The Wright Brothers

The\xa0Wright brothers,\xa0Orville Wright\xa0(August 19, 1871 \u2013 January 30, 1948) and\xa0Wilbur Wright\xa0(April 16, 1867 \u2013 May 30, 1912),[a]\xa0were American\xa0aviation\xa0pioneers generally credited[3][4][5]\xa0with inventing, building, and flying the world's first successful motor-operated\xa0airplane. They made the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered,\xa0heavier-than-air aircraft\xa0with the\xa0Wright Flyer\xa0on December 17, 1903, 4\xa0mi (6\xa0km) south of\xa0Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, at what is now known as\xa0Kill Devil Hills. The brothers were also the first to invent\xa0aircraft controls\xa0that made fixed-wing\xa0powered flight\xa0possible.
