The Sound and the Fury\\xa0is a novel by the American author\\xa0William Faulkner. It employs several narrative styles, including\\xa0stream of consciousness. Published in 1929,\\xa0The Sound and the Fury\\xa0was Faulkner\'s fourth novel, and was not immediately successful. In 1931, however, when Faulkner\'s sixth novel,\\xa0Sanctuary, was published\\u2014a sensationalist story, which Faulkner later said was written only for money\\u2014The Sound and the Fury\\xa0also became commercially successful, and Faulkner began to receive critical attention.
