The\xa0Sacred Band of Thebes\xa0(Ancient Greek:\xa0\u1f39\u03b5\u03c1\u1f78\u03c2\xa0\u039b\u03cc\u03c7\u03bf\u03c2,\xa0Hier\xf2s\xa0L\xf3khos) was a\xa0troop\xa0of select soldiers, consisting of 150 pairs of\xa0male lovers\xa0which formed the elite force of the\xa0Theban\xa0army in the 4th century BC. Its predominance began with its crucial role in the\xa0Battle of Leuctra\xa0in 371 BC. It was annihilated by\xa0Philip II of Macedon\xa0in the\xa0Battle of Chaeronea\xa0in 338 BC.
