The International Space Station

The\xa0International Space Station\xa0(ISS) is the largest\xa0modular\xa0space station\xa0currently in\xa0low Earth orbit. It is a multinational collaborative project involving five participating space agencies:\xa0NASA\xa0(United States),\xa0Roscosmos\xa0(Russia),\xa0JAXA\xa0(Japan),\xa0ESA\xa0(Europe), and\xa0CSA\xa0(Canada).[7][8]\xa0The ownership and use of the space station is established by intergovernmental treaties and agreements.[9]\xa0The station serves as a\xa0microgravity\xa0and\xa0space environment\xa0research laboratory in which\xa0scientific research\xa0is conducted in\xa0astrobiology,\xa0astronomy,\xa0meteorology,\xa0physics, and other fields.[10][11][12]\xa0The ISS is suited for testing the spacecraft systems and equipment required for possible future long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars.
