The Dyatlov Pass Incident

The\xa0Dyatlov Pass incident\xa0(Russian:\xa0\u0413\u0438\u0301\u0431\u0435\u043b\u044c \u0442\u0443\u0440\u0433\u0440\u0443\u0301\u043f\u043f\u044b \u0414\u044f\u0301\u0442\u043b\u043e\u0432\u0430) refers to the unsolved deaths of nine ski\xa0hikers\xa0in the northern\xa0Ural Mountains\xa0in the\xa0Soviet Union\xa0(now\xa0Russia) between 1 February and 2 February 1959. The experienced trekking group, who were all from the\xa0Ural Polytechnical Institute, had established a\xa0camp\xa0on the slopes of\xa0Kholat Syakhl\xa0in an area now named in honor of the group's leader, Igor Dyatlov. During the night, something caused them to tear their way out of their tents and flee the campsite while inadequately dressed for heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures.
