The\\xa0Cardiff Giant\\xa0was one of the most famous\\xa0hoaxes\\xa0in American history. It was a 10-foot-tall (3.0\\xa0m) purported "petrified\\xa0man" uncovered on October\\xa016, 1869, by workers digging a well behind the barn of William C. "Stub" Newell in\\xa0Cardiff, New York. Both it and an unauthorized copy made by\\xa0P. T. Barnum\\xa0are still being displayed. The original is currently on display at The\\xa0Farmers\' Museum\\xa0in\\xa0Cooperstown, New York.
