The Burr-Hamilton Duel

The\xa0Burr\u2013Hamilton duel\xa0was a\xa0duel\xa0fought at\xa0Weehawken, New Jersey, between Vice President\xa0Aaron Burr\xa0and\xa0Alexander Hamilton, the former Secretary of the Treasury. It occurred early in the morning of July 11, 1804[1]\xa0and was the culmination of a long and bitter rivalry between the two men. Burr shot Hamilton, while Hamilton's shot broke a tree branch above and behind Burr's head. Hamilton was carried to the home of\xa0William Bayard Jr.\xa0where he died the next day.
