The\\xa0Burr\\u2013Hamilton duel\\xa0was a\\xa0duel\\xa0fought at\\xa0Weehawken, New Jersey, between Vice President\\xa0Aaron Burr\\xa0and\\xa0Alexander Hamilton, the former Secretary of the Treasury. It occurred early in the morning of July 11, 1804[1]\\xa0and was the culmination of a long and bitter rivalry between the two men. Burr shot Hamilton, while Hamilton\'s shot broke a tree branch above and behind Burr\'s head. Hamilton was carried to the home of\\xa0William Bayard Jr.\\xa0where he died the next day.
