The Brooklyn Bridge

The\xa0Brooklyn Bridge\xa0is a hybrid\xa0cable-stayed/suspension bridge\xa0in\xa0New York City, spanning the\xa0East River\xa0between the boroughs of\xa0Manhattan\xa0and\xa0Brooklyn. Opened on May 24, 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the first fixed crossing of the East River. It was also the\xa0longest suspension bridge in the world\xa0at the time of its opening, with a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3\xa0m) and a deck 127\xa0ft (38.7\xa0m) above\xa0mean high water. The span was originally called the\xa0New York and Brooklyn Bridge\xa0or the\xa0East River Bridge\xa0but was officially renamed the Brooklyn Bridge in 1915.
