The Battle of the Golden Spurs
The\xa0Battle of the Golden Spurs\xa0(Flemish:\xa0Guldensporenslag;\xa0French:\xa0Bataille des \xe9perons d'or) was a military confrontation between the royal army of\xa0France\xa0and rebellious forces of the\xa0County of Flanders\xa0on 11 July 1302 during the\xa0Franco-Flemish War\xa0(1297\u20131305). It took place near the town of\xa0Kortrijk\xa0(Courtrai) in modern-day\xa0Belgium\xa0and resulted in an unexpected victory for the Flemish. It is sometimes referred to as the\xa0Battle of Courtrai.
