The Battle of Hastings

The\xa0Battle of Hastings[a]\xa0was fought on 14 October 1066 between the Norman-French army of\xa0William, the Duke of Normandy, and an English army under the\xa0Anglo-Saxon\xa0King\xa0Harold Godwinson, beginning the\xa0Norman conquest of England. It took place approximately 7 miles (11 kilometres) northwest of\xa0Hastings, close to the present-day town of\xa0Battle, East Sussex, and was a decisive\xa0Norman\xa0victory.
