Roy Bean

Phantly Roy Bean, Jr.\xa0(c. 1825 \u2013 March 16, 1903) was an eccentric U.S.\xa0saloon-keeper\xa0and\xa0Justice of the Peace\xa0in\xa0Val Verde County, Texas, who called himself "The Law West of the\xa0Pecos". According to legend, Judge Roy Bean held court in his saloon along the\xa0Rio Grande\xa0on a desolate stretch of the\xa0Chihuahuan Desert\xa0of southwest Texas. After his death, Western films and books cast him as a\xa0hanging judge, although he is known to have sentenced only two men to hang, one of whom escaped.
