Operation Mincemeat\xa0was a successful British\xa0deception operation\xa0of the\xa0Second World War\xa0to disguise the 1943\xa0Allied invasion of Sicily. Two members of British intelligence obtained the body of\xa0Glyndwr Michael, a\xa0tramp\xa0who died from eating\xa0rat poison, dressed him as an officer of the\xa0Royal Marines\xa0and placed personal items on him identifying him as the fictitious\xa0Captain\xa0(Acting\xa0Major)\xa0William Martin. Correspondence between two British generals that suggested that the\xa0Allies\xa0planned to invade Greece and\xa0Sardinia, with Sicily as merely the target of a\xa0feint, was also placed on the body.
