Olga of Kiev

Olga\xa0(Old East Slavic:\xa0\u0412\u043e\u043b\u044c\u0433\u0430,\xa0romanized:\xa0Vol\u012dga;[a]\xa0Old Norse:\xa0Helga;\xa0Lith:\xa0Alge; Christian name:\xa0Elena; c. 890\u2013925 \u2013 969) was a\xa0regent\xa0of\xa0Kievan Rus'\xa0for her son\xa0Sviatoslav\xa0from 945 until 960. Following her baptism, Olga took the name\xa0Elen\u0430\xa0(Old East Slavic:\xa0\u0460\u043b\u0435\u043d\u0430,\xa0romanized:\xa0Olena).[2]\xa0She is known for her subjugation of the\xa0Drevlians, a tribe that had killed her husband\xa0Igor of Kiev. Even though it was her grandson\xa0Vladimir\xa0who converted the entire nation to Christianity, because of her efforts to spread\xa0Christianity\xa0through Rus', Olga is venerated as a\xa0saint\xa0in the\xa0Eastern Orthodox Church\xa0with the epithet "Equal to the Apostles". Her\xa0feast day is 11 July.
