Elizabeth Cochran Seaman[1]\xa0(May 5, 1864[2]\xa0\u2013 January 27, 1922), better known by her pen name\xa0Nellie Bly, was an American journalist who was widely known for her record-breaking\xa0trip around the world\xa0in 72 days, in emulation of\xa0Jules Verne's fictional character\xa0Phileas Fogg, and an\xa0expos\xe9\xa0in which she worked undercover to report on a mental institution from within.[3]\xa0She was a pioneer in her field, and launched a new kind of investigative journalism.[4]\xa0Bly was also a writer, industrialist, inventor, and a\xa0charity worker.
