Mithradates
Mithridates\xa0or\xa0Mithradates VI Eupator\xa0(Greek:\xa0\u039c\u03b9\u03b8\u03c1\u03b1\u03b4\u03ac\u03c4\u03b7\u03c2;[2]\xa0135\u201363 BC) was ruler of the\xa0Hellenistic\xa0Kingdom of Pontus\xa0in northern\xa0Anatolia\xa0from 120 to 63 BC, and one of the\xa0Roman Republic's most formidable and determined opponents. He was an effective, ambitious and ruthless ruler who sought to dominate\xa0Asia Minor\xa0and the\xa0Black Sea\xa0region, waging several hard-fought but ultimately unsuccessful wars (the\xa0Mithridatic Wars) to break Roman dominion over Asia and the Hellenic world.[3]\xa0He has been called the greatest ruler of the Kingdom of Pontus.[4]\xa0After his death he became known as\xa0Mithridates the Great; due to his affinity for poison he has also been called "The Poison King".
