Lola Montez

Eliza Rosanna Gilbert, Countess of Landsfeld[1]\xa0(17 February 1821 \u2013 17 January 1861), better known by the stage name\xa0Lola Montez\xa0(/mo\u028an\u02c8t\u025bz/), was an\xa0Irish\xa0dancer and actress who became famous as a Spanish dancer,\xa0courtesan, and\xa0mistress\xa0of King\xa0Ludwig I of Bavaria, who made her\xa0Gr\xe4fin\xa0von Landsfeld\xa0(Countess\xa0of Landsfeld). At the start of the\xa0Revolutions of 1848 in the German states, she was forced to flee. She proceeded to the United States via Austria, Switzerland, France and London, to return to her work as an entertainer and lecturer.
