Le P\xe9tomane\xa0(/l\u0259\u02c8p\u025bt\u0259me\u026an/,\xa0French pronunciation:\xa0\u200b[l\u0259pet\u0254\u02c8man]) was the\xa0stage name\xa0of the\xa0French\xa0flatulist\xa0(professional farter) and entertainer\xa0Joseph Pujol\xa0(June 1, 1857 \u2013 1945). He was famous for his remarkable control of the abdominal\xa0muscles, which enabled him to seemingly\xa0fart\xa0at will. His stage name combines the French verb\xa0p\xe9ter, "to fart" with the -mane, "-maniac" suffix, which translates to "fartomaniac". The profession is also referred to as "flatulist", "farteur", or "fartiste".[1]
