Lake Peigneur
Lake Peigneur\xa0(locally pronounced\xa0[p\xe6\u0303j\u0303\xe6\u0339\u027e]) is a saline[A]lake in the US state of\xa0Louisiana, 1.2 miles (1.9\xa0km) north of\xa0Delcambre\xa0and 9.1 miles (14.6\xa0km) west of\xa0New Iberia, near the northernmost tip of\xa0Vermilion Bay. With a maximum depth of 200 feet (61\xa0m), it is the deepest lake in Louisiana.
It was a 10-foot (3\xa0m) deep\xa0freshwater\xa0body, popular with sportsmen, until an unusual man-made disaster on November 20, 1980 changed its structure and the surrounding land.[1][2]
