An\xa0idiom\xa0is a\xa0phrase\xa0or expression that typically presents a\xa0figurative, non-literal\xa0meaning\xa0attached to the phrase; but some phrases become figurative idioms while retaining the literal meaning of the phrase. Categorized as\xa0formulaic language, an idiom's figurative meaning is different from the\xa0literal\xa0meaning.[1]\xa0Idioms occur frequently in all languages; in\xa0English\xa0alone there are an estimated twenty-five million idiomatic expressions.
