HMS\xa0Wager\xa0was a square-rigged sixth-rate\xa0Royal Navy\xa0ship of 28 guns. She was built as an\xa0East Indiaman\xa0in about 1734 and made two voyages to India for the\xa0East India Company\xa0before the Royal Navy purchased her in 1739. She formed part of a squadron under Commodore\xa0George Anson\xa0and was wrecked on the south coast of\xa0Chile\xa0on 14 May 1741. The wreck of\xa0Wager\xa0became famous for the subsequent adventures of the survivors who found themselves marooned on a\xa0desolate island\xa0in the middle of a Patagonian winter, and in particular because of the\xa0Wager Mutiny\xa0that followed.
