Harriet Tubman\xa0(born\xa0Araminta Ross,\xa0c.\u2009March 1822[1]\xa0\u2013\xa0March 10, 1913) was an American\xa0abolitionist\xa0and political activist. Born into\xa0slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people, including family and friends,[2]\xa0using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the\xa0Underground Railroad. During the\xa0American Civil War, she served as an armed\xa0scout\xa0and\xa0spy\xa0for the\xa0Union Army. In her later years, Tubman was an activist in the movement for\xa0women's suffrage.
