Gamergate\xa0or\xa0GamerGate\xa0(GG)[1]\xa0was a loosely organized\xa0misogynistic online harassment\xa0campaign and a\xa0right-wing\xa0backlash against\xa0feminism, diversity, and\xa0progressivism\xa0in\xa0video game culture.[2][3][4]\xa0It was conducted using the\xa0hashtag\xa0"#Gamergate" primarily in 2014 and 2015.[1][5][6][7]\xa0Gamergate targeted women in the\xa0video game industry, most notably feminist media critic\xa0Anita Sarkeesian\xa0and video game developers\xa0Zo\xeb Quinn\xa0and\xa0Brianna Wu.[8][9][10][11][12]
