Eugene Victor "Gene" Debs\xa0(November 5, 1855 \u2013 October 20, 1926) was an American\xa0socialist,\xa0political activist,\xa0trade unionist, one of the founding members of the\xa0Industrial Workers of the World\xa0(IWW) and\xa0five times the candidate\xa0of the\xa0Socialist Party of America\xa0for\xa0President of the United States.[1]\xa0Through his presidential candidacies as well as his work with labor movements, Debs eventually became one of the best-known socialists living in the United States.
