Enrique of Malacca\xa0(Spanish:\xa0Enrique de Malaca;\xa0Portuguese:\xa0Henrique de Malaca), was a native of the\xa0Malay Archipelago\xa0who became a\xa0slave\xa0of the\xa0Portuguese\xa0explorer\xa0Ferdinand Magellan\xa0in the 16th century.\xa0Italianhistorian\xa0Antonio Pigafetta, who wrote the most comprehensive account of Magellan's voyage, named him "Henrique" (which was\xa0Hispanicised\xa0as\xa0Enrique\xa0in official Spanish documents). Pigafetta explicitly states that "Henrique" was a native of\xa0Sumatra. According to biographer-philosopher\xa0Stefan Zweig, he is the first person to circumnavigate the world.[1]\xa0His name appears as "Henrique",[2]\xa0which is\xa0Portuguese, and is probably the name given to him at his\xa0christening, as he was baptised a\xa0Roman Catholic\xa0by his Portuguese captors. His name appears only in Pigafetta's account, in Magellan's\xa0Last Will, and in official documents at the\xa0Casa de Contrataci\xf3n de las Indias\xa0of the Magellan expedition to the\xa0Philippines.
