Carrie Amelia Nation\xa0(forename sometimes spelled\xa0Carry;[1]\xa0November 25, 1846 \u2013 June 9, 1911) was an American woman who was a radical member of the\xa0temperance movement, which opposed alcohol before the advent of\xa0Prohibition. She is remembered for attacking alcohol-serving establishments (most often taverns) with a\xa0hatchet.
