Carl Tanzler, or sometimes\xa0Count Carl von Cosel\xa0(February 8, 1877 \u2013 July 3, 1952), was a German-born\xa0radiology technician\xa0at the\xa0Marine-Hospital Service\xa0in\xa0Key West, Florida. He developed an obsession for a young\xa0Cuban-American\xa0tuberculosis\xa0patient, Elena "Helen" Milagro de Hoyos (July 31, 1909 \u2013 October 25, 1931), that carried on well after the\xa0disease\xa0had caused her death.[1]\xa0In 1933, almost two years after her death, Tanzler removed Hoyos' body from its tomb, and lived with the\xa0corpse\xa0at his home for seven years until its discovery by Hoyos' relatives and authorities in 1940.[2]
