The\xa0Late Bronze Age collapse\xa0was a time of widespread\xa0societal collapse\xa0during the 12th century BC associated with\xa0environmental change,\xa0mass migration, and the\xa0destruction of cities. The collapse affected a large area of the\xa0Eastern Mediterranean\xa0(North Africa\xa0and\xa0Southeast Europe) and the\xa0Near East, in particular\xa0Egypt,\xa0eastern Libya, the\xa0Balkans, the\xa0Aegean,\xa0Anatolia, and, to a lesser degree, the\xa0Caucasus. It was sudden, violent, and culturally disruptive for many\xa0Bronze Age\xa0civilizations, and it brought a sharp economic decline to regional powers, notably ushering in the\xa0Greek Dark Ages.
