Aimee Elizabeth Semple McPherson\xa0(n\xe9e\xa0Kennedy; October 9, 1890\xa0\u2013 September 27, 1944), also known as\xa0Sister Aimee\xa0or\xa0Sister, was a Canadian\xa0Pentecostal\xa0evangelist\xa0and media\xa0celebrity\xa0in the 1920s and 1930s,\xa0famous for founding the\xa0Foursquare Church. McPherson pioneered the use of\xa0broadcast mass media\xa0for wider dissemination of both religious services and appeals for donations, using radio to draw in both additional audience and revenue with the growing appeal of popular entertainment and incorporating stage techniques into her weekly sermons at\xa0Angelus Temple, an early\xa0megachurch.
