1980 Damascus Titan Missile Explosion

The\xa0Damascus Titan missile explosion\xa0(also known as the\xa0Damascus accident[1]) was a 1980\xa0U.S.\xa0Broken Arrow incidentinvolving a Titan II Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). The incident occurred on September 18\u201319, 1980, at Missile Complex 374-7 in rural\xa0Arkansas\xa0when a\xa0U.S. Air Force\xa0LGM-25C Titan II\xa0ICBM\xa0loaded with a 9 megaton\xa0W-53 Nuclear Warhead\xa0had a\xa0liquid fuel\xa0explosion inside its silo[2]\xa0at a\xa0missile launch facility. Launch Complex 374-7 was located in\xa0Van Buren County\xa0farmland just 3.3 miles (5.3 km) NNE of\xa0Damascus, and approximately fifty miles (80\xa0km) north of\xa0Little Rock.
