Originally Louise Simonson and Rob Liefeld created him to just be a military leader who was the complete opposite of Professor X and would lead the young New Mutants. Things changed rather quickly as the character became more popular and soon it was revealed he was not only Nathan Summers but his clone was Stryfe who founded the Mutant Liberation Front. It only gets stranger and weirder from here and we cover it all. From his half sister from an alternate timeline (Rachel Summers/Grey) to Cable going becoming the protector and father of Hope Summers. There's a lot going on, it can be convoluted but it's all connected.
