CYPOV Podcast is dedicated to helping Veterans become just as successful out of uniform as they were when they were in. Often times becoming successful means you have to ask for help or seek professional help to work through some rough spots in your life. This week we take a closer look at networking. Ask yourself, how can networking save a life?
\nThis week Eddie has the pleasure of sitting down with Duane K. L. France Director of Veteran Services at Family Care Center, a private mental health counseling agency specializing in the unique needs of military service members, veterans, and their families. He is also the Executive Director of the Colorado Veterans Health and Wellness Agency, a 501(c)3 Nonprofit affiliated with the Family Care Center.
\nDuane is a retired Army Noncommissioned Officer and combat veteran, having served in deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, North Africa, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. After retirement, he served as Program Director for the Colorado Veterans Resource Coalition, a 501(c)3 Nonprofit that provides emergency and transitional housing to veterans participating in programs at the local Department of Veterans Affairs clinic.
\nSince transitioning to full-time clinical mental health counseling, Duane has provided mental health counseling services to the Colorado Fourth Judicial District Veteran Trauma Court.
\nDuane is passionate about veteran mental health and feels strongly that those who have served in the military can continue to provide value to their community long after that service has ended.
\nIN THIS PARTICULAR EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN:\nWhat is the big deal around Networking? We all hear about networking and how important it is for your career, finding a job, making connections, etc. Many, however, lose sight of the fact that networking can also lead to finding the help you need or helping someone in your life you care about find the help they are looking for.
\nMany veterans are skittish about seeking help of any kind even if they know deep down inside that they need to if they truly want to get out of the rut they are in. Then you pile on the idea of seeking that help from someone you don't know, or trust and well, we all know how that road ends.
\nWhat if however, you were that veteran needing help. Would you be more inclined to talk to someone that has been recommended to you by someone you know and trust? You probably would take it into consideration at the very least right?
\nThe power of a network is incredible! It isn't just for finding your next job or girlfriend. It can truly save someone's life.
