EP053: Transitioning Veteran Part 2 Managing Your Expectations

Published: Dec. 19, 2020, 1:32 p.m.

This is the second part in a 4-part series dedicated to the Transitioning Veteran. This week Bennett and I sit down and discuss some false expectations Veterans often face, and how you can manage those expectations. Separating from the military is difficult enough but now throw all kinds of false hopes and dreams on that fire and before you know it your spirit is shot and things start to look really bleak!

This episode is not designed to crush anyone’s hopes and dreams, but Bennett and I do give you a healthy dose of reality. “At the end of the day” no one owes you anything, the civilian world just doesn’t care about your service as much as you do, and there aren’t thousands of jobs just waiting for you when you get out. Keeping it real!

IN THIS PARTICULAR EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN:

There are three primary paths folks take when they separate from military service:

 1. Education – This can be full-time at a college or university in an actual degree program. This could also mean taking classes courses and or certificates for a particular industry or trade. It is important to understand what education path you want to pursue prior to separation.
 2.

 3. Employee – Many seek employment once they separate and go right back to work. Know and understand what you want to do, where you want to do it, and have a read on several opportunities. Don’t rely on just one potential job when you get out, it may not be available once you finally separate.
 4.

 5. Entrepreneur – Finally, an option post-military is to go into business for yourself and be your own boss. There is a lot of freedom in this but it is extremely difficult and requires a tremendous amount of tenacity, grit, and good ‘ole fashioned hard ass work!
