The number of flights in and out of this province has declined drastically since the pandemic, and that is devastating to airports and the communities that rely on them. In Gander and area, the chamber of commerce says nearly 3-hundred jobs have been lost. An "aging population" has become part of the conversation on the growing economic crisis in this province. Yesterday, APEC released its latest report on the province's financial outlook, which says that a rising seniors population is an obstacle to economic recovery. Suzanne Brake is the province's Seniors Advocate and she says sentiments like these are just another example of ageism. For more than half a century, Henry Vokey built everything from sailboats to 65-foot draggers. He's said to have made more than a thousand (1000) wooden boats - the most famous - the Leah Caroline - you may remember, was featured on an episode of the Land and Sea. Vokey died on Wednesday at the age of 91. Back in 2013, the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador recipient spoke with the CBC's Melissa Tobin as he was about to receive his latest accomplishment - an honorary doctor of laws degree from Memorial University.
