Chicago punk legends Apocalypse Hoboken are gearing up for two reunion shows at Chop Shop (July 13 & 14). That seemed like a perfect excuse to chat with Todd and Andy from the band.

Joining us in the car is the source of this week\'s meal: Matt Habib, proprietor of the transcendent Legit Dogs & Ice (51 S. Grove Ave in Elgin). The food was ridiculously good. Go there now. We\'ll wait.

Anyway, here\'s what was discussed on this week\'s show, sponsored by Boost Mobile:

  • Legit Dogs opened up on a Tuesday just to participate in Car Con Carne. WE LOVE THEM.
  • Matt made 12 dogs for the four of us ("Everyone in Elgin eats like this"). Here\'s what we tried on the show:
    • Mac & Cheese: Cheesy beef hot dog topped with mac & cheese, crispy bacon and shredded cheddar cheese.
    • The Carve: Beef hot dog, smoked brisket, baked beans, BBQ sauce and creamy cole slaw.
    • The Bad Hombre (JVO Pick): Jalapeno cheese hot dog, fresh mango and papaya, chile y limon seasoning, sriracha mayo "Bad Hombre" sauce, crunchy fried corn and cilantro. "It\'s a basketful of secrets."
    • Sleeping With the Enemy: Cheesy beef hot dog, roasted green peppers, shredded mozzarella, giardiniera and Italian beef.
  • Why did Hoboken initially break up? Todd: "(The reason) was probably me." Andy: "I think we got worn down."
  • "Cred police" aside, would Hoboken have signed to a label back in the day, had the offer been made?
  • The lyrics of "Little Fingers," and why that song couldn\'t get played on the radio in the present day.
  • If Hoboken was formed today, you\'d find their shirts at Hot Topic.
  • "It\'s harder to be a sexist racist nowadays."
  • The upcoming vinyl-only release, "Everybody\'s Been Burned." I contributed to the album\'s liner notes, and do a reading of the liner notes on the podcast.
  • Do you know what it\'s like to be pissed on? DO YOU?
  • Song selection for the upcoming setlists.
  • The "punk rock boycott" of Metro in the 1990s. "There was a lot of misinformation."
  • "Can someone hand me more paper towels? This is a disaster!"
  • Todd remembers my long-standing love of the Hoboken song "Monchichi."
  • The "Pickle Juice" story.
  • Todd Pot is like a "momma bear."
  • Food trucks are the punk rock of the restaurant business.
