Mind-body therapist Robert Schmehr of Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Integrative Medicine Service explains that meditation, also called focused awareness, is a technique that allows its practitioners to focus the energy of the mind to promote deeper states of relaxation and enhanced emotional well-bring. While practices vary, universal features include certain postures, awareness of breath, and an attitude of acceptance and nonjudgment.
