GENESIS 4

Cain and Abel

\n

1 Adam\xa0made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.\xa0She said, \u201cWith the help of the\xa0Lord\xa0I have brought forth\xa0a man.\u201d\xa02 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.\xa0

3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the\xa0Lord.\xa04 And Abel also brought an offering\u2014fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The\xa0Lord\xa0looked with favor on Abel and his offering,\xa05 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

6 Then the\xa0Lord\xa0said to Cain, \u201cWhy are you angry? Why is your face downcast?\xa07 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.\u201d

8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, \u201cLet\u2019s go out to the field.\u201d\xa0While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the\xa0Lord\xa0said to Cain, \u201cWhere is your brother Abel?\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d he replied. \u201cAm I my brother\u2019s keeper?\u201d 10 The\xa0Lord\xa0said, \u201cWhat have you done? Listen! Your brother\u2019s blood cries out to me from the ground.\xa011 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother\u2019s blood from your hand.\xa012 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.\u201d
