Coach Melissa D'Amico shares her journey from growing up in New York to playing under the legendary Coach McGraw at Notre Dame and then eventually becoming an Assistant Coach at Wake Forest.
\nShe was a part of four NCAA Tournament teams during her college years - including a Sweet Sixteen appearance her senior season. After her college playing days she played overseas while also helping out with a pair of Czech Republic junior national teams, DSK Karlin in Prague and Slovanka in Vodochody. In her final season playing overseas she realized that she wanted to become a coach, the story she shares is wonderful.
\nOnce her playing career ended she became a coach, her first college job was at Colgate under former Big East foe Nicci Hays Fort at Colgate University. From Colgate she went on to serve as an Assistant Coach at Yale before joining Coach Jen Hoover's coaching staff at Wake Forest.
\nCoach D'Amico discusses what led her to start her own nonprofit and how her and her fianc\xe9 Matt Graves (Assistant Coach at Mount St. Mary's & Friend of the podcast) make the long distance relationship work + how both of them coaching adds to the dynamic.
\nShe runs her own nonprofit "Play BOLD", their goal is to empower communities by mobilizing people & resources on international missions to the most disadvantaged areas of the world.
