Malou Alorro is a member of Women in Literary Arts-Cebu and Bathalad-Sugbo, a group of Cebuano writers who write mostly in Binisaya. Her writing engagements started when she wrote her diaries at the age of 9. Then, she explored essays in high school and later, with poetry when she reached college. A big influence in some of her writings was the experience under Marcos’ Martial Law dictatorship in the 1980s; gender relations, love relations, motherhood and being a daughter, and friendship, although many of her works have not yet been published. Alorro is a mother to an only daughter, Mutya.  Her first book, entitled: The Winter Lady was published last November 18, 2017, which is what she calls her advocacy birth poems.
