Girl: A Close Reading
In this episode, Jade deviated from her schedule to tell you about a short story instead, called Girl, by Jamaica Kincaid.
She deviated because of a story involving her rat Sunny, his teeth, and her drive home from Austin, Texas. Jade tells you about it, don't worry.
In this episode, Jade wanted to show you a bit more about her close reading and her process of analysis. She dives into this short story that is compromised of only one sentence, and makes her argument that it is a coming of age story that questions societal expectations of young women and demonstrates the deteriorating relationship of a mother and daughter.
