Carmilla: Lesbian Vampires

Published: Oct. 21, 2020, 5 p.m.

Welcome to Bad Bookclub! Where I, Jade, a silly goose with an English Degree, read classic and popular literature so you don't have to!

In this episode, Jade summarizes and analyzes Carmilla, the gothic novella about a young woman named Laura and her experience with a woman named Carmilla who stayed at their home for several months. Carmilla is a strange woman who is often overcome by fits of passion, sleeps in late, doesn't eat, and is often in Laura's nightmares. Laura soon realizes the situation is more serious than she realized.

Jade had way too much fun diving into the literary history of Vampires, their lore, and the literary Gothic movement and its required tropes and characteristics.
She also wants to write an essay on Lesbian Vampires.
Doesn't everyone?
Also, who wouldn't want to live in a Schloss in Styria?
Listen along for dramatic quotes, nerdy literature info, and Halloween vibes!
