Lecture 35: The Cosmic Distance Scale

Published: Feb. 24, 2006, 3:32 p.m.

How do we measure distances on cosmic scales? This lecture describes\nthe rungs in the cosmic distance ladder from measuring the AU in our\nown Solar System out into the Hubble expansion of the universe. These\ndistances form the basis of the measurements that let us piece together\nthe present, past, and future history of the expanding Universe, setting\nthe stage for next week's lectures.\nRecorded 2006 February 24 in 1008 Evans Laboratory on the Columbus campus\nof The Ohio State University.
