If you search for \u2018philosophy\u2019 or \u2018philosophers\u2019 online, chances are you\u2019ll find lots of photos of white men.\nWikipedia will tell you that historically, the main traditions include Western, Indian, Arabic-Persian and Chinese philosophy.\nBut some people question how insightful these ideas are to life on the continent. \nMeanwhile, some of the oldest philosophical texts were produced in ancient Egypt. \nAnd terms from African philosophy such as Ubuntu \u2013 \u201cI am because we are\u201d \u2013 are influential around the world even today.\nA new \u201cHandbook of African Philosophy\u201d has been compiled by Dr Mpho Tshivhase (University of Pretoria) and Dr Elvis Imafidon (SOAS, London) and is set to be published in November. \nSo, what are they hoping to achieve with the book? And what are the big questions for African philosophers today?
