Around 60 people were killed in an explosion at an informal gold mine in Burkina Faso on Monday.\nIn recent years, gold has become Burkina Faso\u2019s biggest export.\nInformal, artisan mining operations are becoming more common there and across the region.\nPeople in these mines aren\u2019t employed by big mining companies.\nAnd there is often little regulation or oversight.\nSo, can mining in west Africa be made safer?
