In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the Mittelstand\u2014midsize, often family-owned companies that take a longer-term view of things\u2014make up a large segment of the economy. Like all parts of the economy, the Mittelstand aren\u2019t immune to external forces. We spoke to Klaus Schatz, a partner at KPMG in Vienna, about the challenges facing the Mittelstand and how companies are adapting.
