Small Western Kentucky Town Struggles to Stay Viable

The city of Columbus, Kentucky, is often overshadowed by Columbus-Belmont State Park, a historic landmark with striking vistas of the Mississippi River. Visitors must drive through the city to get to the park entrance. But few linger to visit the town. The population has steadily shrunk in every census of the the past 30 years, from 296 in 1980, to 170 in 2010. As Angela Hatton reports recent problems with the Columbus water district have sparked widespread ire.
