What About The Dads?

What about the dads?

Recent research shows that 1 in 10 new dads will experience some symptoms of post-natal depression and 39% of expectant dads are concerned about their mental health.

The mental health of men is still overlooked with suicide remaining the biggest killer of men under the age of 45, and 12.5% of men in the UK suffering from depression and anxiety.

New dads are particularly vulnerable as financial and work pressures coupled with a huge life change can have a significant impact. Dad’s poor mental health negatively impacts support for mothers and the development of children.

So today’s conversation is a much-needed one. My guest is Elliott Rae.

Elliott is an author, speaker and founder of MusicFootballFatherhood the UK’s most exciting parenting and lifestyle platform for men.

Elliott is encouraging open conversations about fatherhood. His book Dad; Untold Stories of Fatherhood, Love, Mental Health and Masculinity is a must-read. Each chapter is a story from a different dad and takes you on a journey - each dad bears his soul and they are deeply personal stories.

Elliott was diagnosed with PTSD after the traumatic birth of his daughter. It’s that experience that has led him to dedicate his life’s work to creating spaces for more open conversations around fatherhood and changing the narrative..

This episode launches on Father’s Day week in the UK and this is the most incredible way to acknowledge and celebrate fathers and I can’t wait to dive into this conversation.
