162: Healing Hero with Dr Eugene Lipov On today’s episode, Joe Crane discusses Healing Hero with Dr Eugene Lipov. Eugene is the founder of Healing Hero and The Global Post-Traumatic Stress Injury Foundation. His mission is to help military personnel suffering from PTSD transition to a productive, healthy life. Tune in for some classic insights about the treatment he offers! Interest in Veteran Affairs Eugene migrated with his family from Ukraine to the US while he was still 14 years old. He studied and trained to be a surgeon in Chicago. He was always interested in veteran affairs, and worked in a VA hospital.   His father was a World War II veteran, who suffered from a sever case of PTSD. Eventually, he came up with a treatment using the anesthetic technique. Stellate Ganglion Block Stellate ganglion block has been around since 1925. It’s an effective treatment for arm pain and headaches. Eugene trained on it in the late 1980s.   He has been using it since then until he discovered that it can also treat PTSD. A local anesthetic would be used to numb a fight-and-flight system in the neck. The treatment requires two and a half number of procedures on average. The Case of a Special Operations Soldier Eugene shares the story of a special operations soldier from Illinois. Fire brought him down twice in Iraq. He also had the experience of shooting a two-year old child laid with explosives to save his team.   He became violent when he returned home. It’s been eight years now that he’s in treatment.
