S2 Ep. 5: Del does shaving, Pop. 485 [EXPLICIT], Is it quirks or quarks, Recognizing a winged warrior

Note: There are a couple curse words in the book excerpt Dave reads.

Del dispenses some astute observations on shaving and shavers, immediately losing half our listener base. He discloses that he uses an old style 2-bladed safety razor and tells us about an ingenious razor invented by an old African man. Next come the modern cartridge razors that have evolved to five or six blades with no marketing limits in sight.

Dave reviews Pop. 485; Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time by Michael Perry. Perry, a nurse, moves back to the town where he grew up in rural Wisconsin and joins the volunteer fire department as an EMT in order to shed his outsider image and reconnect with his past. His essays covering\xa0 his neighbors, fellow firefighters, and accident victims\xa0 range from humorous to poignant. This book was published in a kinder, gentler 2002. More here.

Del sends Dave a text saying he wants to do a segment on QUARKS, causing visions of hadrons to dance in Dave's head.\xa0 Alas, it is one more case of Del's inability to spell.\xa0 Dave is tongue-tied as Del instead asks him what his QUIRKS are.

Dave pays tribute to the late Len Gumley, the actor who died in John Wayne's arms in Sands of Iwo Jima.\xa0 Len was also a WW2 glider pilot and helped produce the documentary, Silent Winged Warriors \xa0for the History Channel. Watch it here.\xa0
