Staying Behind in Southern Lebanon

The exodus of hundreds of thousands from southern Lebanon has left villages and towns empty. But not everyone has left. Some stay because of pride, others because they can't afford the exorbitant cost of a taxi ride out. One group of Lebanese-Americans stayed in their native village near the coastal city of Tyre until Israeli tanks rolled in. They eventually escaped with assistance from the U.S. embassy.
